Recap NLC
IZKI.
On
27 / 12 / 2014, in Izki, there was a lab conference, which was about
the Center Pillar of Clinical Laboratory that is LABORATORY
QUALITY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM.
Speakers
covered a wide area of the given heading.
This
is a recap of the talks. As the world is getting variety of new
technologies which enable sophisticated life style. It is important
to prove its quality. So, It is also important to prove How quality
of service we provide in the Health care.
LABORATORY QUALITY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
Talks begun with the quality management system. It is further subdiveded into 12 subsection. It includes Organisation, Personnel, Equipment Management, Purchase, Process Control, Information Management (online data Storage), Assessment Management, Process Improvement, Safety, Ergonomics. These are not much important to know for Technical staff.

Factors
affecting Laboratory Errors
In
the three Phases of Analysis, Analytical phase gets prime importance.
Hence, Control and Calibration gets core attention. As you all aware
Six sigma gets attention in Health care industry. But still we are
learning Levy Jennings method of Control evaluation. LJ method is
easy to evaluate the test results reported in Numbers. Just remember
ECG graph while evaluate LJ. The results should get inside Three
standard Deviation and If the Fluctuation Goes either side, recognize the error and Then take action.
One
should know when to calibrate as well as Receiving , storing, checking expiry
and stability of the control material. On the other hand speaker
explained about Calibrating the pipettes periodically.
Source
of Errors
Topic
was discussed as Case Scenario. Scenario Results were explained the
Low Hb, high
Urea, High Creat, high K,Cl2
,
0.00 HDL results. All were about Iv infusion contamination, mixed
Blood collection tubes, Transcriptional errors, Data transmission
errors.
Control
of Infection and Blood borne Pathogens:
Infection
control elaborates its Definition, Standard, Prevention measures,
Hand hygiene. Blood borne pathogens was about Viruses like EBOLA,
HIV, HCV, HBSAG and its Transmission, Preventive measures like Hbs
ag Vaccination (checking the Anti hbsag titer was recommended),
Cleaning of the contaminated area, inanimate objects like Pen, GSM
in the laboratory. Use of 70% alcohol. Recommendation made to reduce
the Use of XYLENE in the Laboratory.
Waste
Management :
Speaker
started with a Note for Importance of Proper disposal. As Improper
disposal will lead to major Health Hazard to the society. Requested
to imply with proper dispose of Solid waste. Like discarding the
spoiled/ contaminated material in yellow bags and Sharps in closed
container should have proper labelling, that to be incinerated
properly. Maintaining the Spill kit is necessary in all laboratories.
Disposing the Chemical wastes according to the MSDS chart. And also
talked about the Policy, Implementation of the SOP health and
safety.
Blood
Transfusion Safety :
Talk
was covered the whole subject of Blood transfusion. The policy, Blood
collection, Processing , Transfusion. The importance of Safe Blood
transfusion was also delivered.
Laboratory
Ergonomics :
Many
of the participants were not familiar with the ergonomics, So it was
interesting talk for most of them. I heard about Ergonomics in 2007
when group of Engineers visited to our lab and checked the
available Facilities supporting Ergonomics. Later Our Lab was
provided with comfortable chairs with arm rest. And Physiotherapy
department provided a Chart for Ergonomic postures at work place.
There was small exercises in the chart to avoid Work related Muscle
Syndromes.
The
NLC concludes with vote of Thanks from the organizer. We all felt
fullness that the NLC gave a good Picture about the Quality
Management. But still This knowledge is a handful of water from the
Ocean.
The
readers are requested to add their valuable thoughts in recap. So,
that we will try to empty the ocean. You can add comment in https:// laboratorytechnologist.blogspot.com
